Canceling the Memorial Day Parade Due to COVID-19

Local News News & Updates

Editor,

It is with extreme and heart-felt regret that the officers and members of the Nicholas P. Lesando, Jr., American Legion Post 214 in Warwick, have decided to cancel the Memorial Day Parade which would have been held on Mon., May 25.

We are canceling the parade because we wish to avoid infecting any of our participants or the general public with the COVID-19 coronavirus. We ask for sympathy and understanding from our fellow Warwickians. We look forward to seeing all of you at the Memorial Day Parade in 2021.

In addition, the officers and members of our post will not be placing flags on veterans graves this year. Once again, we are doing this to avoid infecting any of our members or any of our local Boy Scouts with COVID-19.

We are extremely sorry to have to do this, but during this dreadful pandemic, safety has to be our first priority. Hopefully, when the spring of 2021 rolls around, we can resume decorating the graves of our honored dead with our country’s flag.
