Supervisor Sweeton: CDC Guidelines for Preparedness on Town Website

Local News News & Updates

While there have been no reported cases of Covid-19 near us we will continue to put relevant information on the Town website, www.townofwarwick.org, and our Facebook page.  We have been briefed by both Orange County Emergency Services and the NYS Department of Health as to their preparation in the event anything changes; we can be confident they are well prepared, as are our area hospitals like St. Anthony’s. Right now just follow the CDC guidelines posted on our Facebook page – wash your hands, don’t touch your mouth, if not feeling well stay home and rest.

Our Country is embarking on the very important task of conducting the 2020 census.  Accurate counts of our citizens is crucial to ensure we receive back to us our fair share of taxes we send the Federal government. It will also determine our representation in Congress.  If you would like to help by being a census worker, please call 1-855-JOB-2020 to sign up.

The AARP Foundation Tax- Aide program and Hudson Valley CA$H Coalition offers free tax preparation assistance to low to moderate income individuals, families and seniors. There are many sites throughout the county offering this free service. There are no age restrictions and AARP membership is not required. Daytime, evening and weekend appointments are available.  To schedule an appointment, call United Way’s Help Line, 2-1-1 or 1-800-899-1479. Calls are accepted seven days a week, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The next Household Hazardous Waste collection day for Orange County residents is scheduled for Sat., Apr. 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Thomas Bull Memorial Park, 90 Grove St., Campbell Hall, NY.  This is a great opportunity to safely dispose of all those old chemicals and sprays that accumulate around the house. This service is free of charge to Orange County residents, with proof of residency (driver’s license or utility bill with Orange County address). No registration is required.  For more information, call 291-3246 or log onto www.orangecountygov.com/efs and click on the Household Hazardous Waste tab on the left.

The next regular meeting of the Town Board will be held on Thurs., Mar. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Warwick Town Hall, 132 Kings Highway, Warwick.

The above column, written by Warwick Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton, has been published in the Mar. 11 issue of the Warwick Valley Dispatch.
