Julia Roome has so much to be proud of as a 4th-grade student at Sanfordville Elementary School. Her eagerness to learn and her passion for the violin is so evident in all that she has accomplished this year.
Music teacher Keely Blaikner states, “Julia is one of the hardest working students I have ever met. She wants to do well and strives to do her best in everything she does; she is such a joy to teach. Besides her interest in athletics such as skiing and softball, she also played the part of Ursula in the recent Sanfordville play, The Little Mermaid.
Recently, Julia also auditioned for the Elementary All-County Orchestra. She was one of two 4th-grade students from across the county and one of about 30 fourth-, fifth-, and sixth- graders from across the county that auditioned for second violin. She was one of the twenty-three students accepted for second violin and one in forty-six violinists accepted overall!”
Truly, these are significant accomplishments to achieve in just the first semester of one’s fourth-grade year. It was a strong work ethic and dedication that allowed Julia to achieve these successes. “I am so proud of Julia as she worked so hard to prepare for the audition. Each week that I worked with her, I saw her improvement and upward advancement towards the audition day. She knows how to take advice and improve each and every week,” recounts Mrs. Blaikner.
Julia has even decided to learn a secondary instrument. She has been learning the viola in school lessons while simultaneously playing the violin in full orchestra rehearsals. Her enthusiastic energy helps her to excel in everything she does. As best stated by her Principal, Johnna Maraia, “Julia is such a hard worker. We are so proud of her courage, grit, and persistence! Julia is not one to give up!”
