     The Drowned Lands Historical Society will be hosting a free Community Forum entitled “How the Drowned Lands Were Drained and Became The Black Dirt Region” on Sun., Feb. 23 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Pine Island Firehouse, located at 684 County Rte. 1 in Pine Island.

     Topics will include Black Dirt Geology, The Muskrat and Beaver Wars, and President Roosevelt’s CCC. Featured panelists are William Grohoski, Black Dirt Historian, and Kevin Sumner, Orange County Soil and Water Conservation.
