This year has been one we can’t wait to put behind us. It’s been a year filled with much sadness and economic destruction, but also one with many stories that inspire us and lift our spirits. We followed how our heroic health care workers, grocery workers, first responders and the hundreds of volunteers who worked to make sure we received essential needs, especially for our senior citizens. There are so many great stories. Two stories underscore what a great Country we have. I saw a report about the vaccine distribution effort currently underway. The entire public/private effort to bring a vaccine to fruition in less than a year is an amazing example of Americans’ ingenuity and perseverance. An interview with a UPS truck driver who lost his dad to COVID-19 brought tears to our eyes as he expressed his commitment to get his delivery to the inoculation sites as quickly as possible so he could save as many lives as possible.
The second story is local. An 80-year-old resident called to tell me he called our police dispatch to inquire if they could recommend a reputable snow plow firm to plow his driveway after the last snow storm. He needed to get a family member to medical treatment. The dispatcher told him to hang on, and then called back to say he found someone. Ten minutes later a young man showed up, plowed his driveway and refused payment, saying he was glad to help. If you have lost faith in humanity know that it’s alive and well in our beautiful Town and great Country. Here’s to a better 2021!
The lobby of Town Hall remains open during the recent uptick in COVID-19 cases across our County with drop boxes to leave forms, water and sewer payments, Building Department applications, etc. Phone numbers/emails are posted so we can provide services during this disruption. Arrangements will be made via phone or email for each department to attend to your critical needs throughout this limited access period.
