Apple Drops Warwick Into New Decade

Local News News & Updates

Story by A.J. Arias

Warwick once again rang in the New Year with its Apple Eve Celebration held by the Warwick Fire Department. This year’s event brought out one of the event’s largest crowds yet.

Taking place on Railroad Ave. the apple, wrapped in lights, came down from the top of a fire truck ladder onto a pedestal that marked the beginning of the New Year and decade.

The crowd – a mix of Warwick residents, former residents visiting their old hometown for the holidays and visitors from nearby towns – celebrated the start of 2020 together on the relatively warm December night.

The Apple Drop celebrates its fourth year and only continues to grow after an unusually cold night two years ago and a rainy night last year. The new local tradition remains a great option for residents looking for something to do on the holiday while also promoting business in the Village.

People of all ages came into the Village to celebrate the end of the 2010’s and to ring in the New Year with a tradition and symbol that perfectly represents the town and village in which they live.
