Hello Florida,
I write this week to address a couple of issues that are ongoing within our Village. First, I would like to remind everyone to please drive carefully on our roads and follow the posted speed limit. Our streets have many homes built close to them and residents enjoy walking along them for exercise or spending time in their yard. Speeding and reckless driving is affecting their quality of life. Fear for themselves or someone they care about being hit by a speeding car is an unnecessary stress in an already stressful world, so please take a little extra time out of your day to leave a few minutes earlier so you’re not in a rush to get to your destination.
The second issue I’d like to mention is the portion of Main Street, Route 17A and 94 going through Florida that is beginning to deteriorate again with each day. I contacted the DOT before the holidays in order for them to be aware of this problem and begin repairs. As a major commuter and taxpayer route you would expect New York would prioritize repairing/ repaving this road. I urge all of you to help get their attention, so please contact them by phone at 343-4638 or write to NYS Department of Transportation, 3233 Route 6, Middletown, NY 10940.
The above column, written by Village of Florida Mayor Daniel Harter, Jr., has been published in the Jan. 8 issue of the Warwick Valley Dispatch.
