Warwick Fire Prevention Report
The Warwick Fire Prevention team asks that residents remember to change the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and to have homes and vehicles serviced for the winter by a qualified reputable business. Check boilers, water heaters and chimneys. Remember to always be Warwick Fire Safe!
Here are some safety tips: While cooking no loose clothing or towels or unattended items by an open flame. While driving in inclement weather only do so if you need to be out. Leave space between you and other vehicles. Have your vehicle serviced and check tires. Leave safe travel time to get to your destination.
To avoid any holiday fires follow these tips:
Keep decorations or any other flammable items at least three feet away from open flame and heat sources. Inspect all decorations to ensure they do not have any frayed or pinched wires and discard any worn decorations. Never leave cooking equipment unattended and turn off burners if you have to leave the room. Never leave a space heater unattended and turn it off when you’re leaving a room or going to sleep. Never let pets or children play too close to a space heater. Water Christmas trees daily and discard trees when they are dry and begin to drop needles.
Check out fpw.org or sparkyschoolhouse.org for loads of educational resources to make sure that every person knows what to do in case of a fire.
