On behalf of the Town Board and all our Town employees I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah and a healthy, happy New Year. Please keep those serving overseas in your prayers and wish them a speedy return to their families. Please also remember that there are many in our community less fortunate than others, so be as generous as you can be to keep our food pantries full and do what you can to spread however much happiness as possible this season.
With the extremely cold temperatures it is important to keep an eye on any elderly neighbors or those who might need extra help. If you know of someone that may need checking on, please call our Warwick Police Department at 986-5000, and we will be happy to have an officer look in on them. In the event of prolonged power outages or severe cold snaps the police can also open our Warming Center in the Senior Center behind Town Hall. Orange County Social Services or the Office for the Aging may also be able to provide assistance. You can reach Orange County Social Services at 291-4000 or Office for the Aging at 615-3700.
The Orange County Planning Department is developing an exciting new computer based application called “Ridetransitorange.com” that is designed to show you how to get from Point A to Point B using public transportation. This new program is undergoing testing, so you are encouraged to go online and try it out. They are looking for your feedback, either by emailing “feedback@transitorange.com” or by calling 615-3850. Since Warwick has such a vibrant bus system we are excited to use this service to offer our residents even more choices.
Our recycling hauler, County Waste, will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. If your recycling falls on these days, recycling will be on a one day delay for not only the actual holidays but for the remaining days of those weeks. County Waste will resume the regular recycling pick up schedule the week of Jan. 6.
The reorganization meeting of the Town Board will be held on Thurs., Jan. 2 at 9 a.m. in the Warwick Town Hall, 132 Kings Hwy. in Warwick.
The next regular meeting of the Town Board will be held on Thurs., Dec. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Warwick Town Hall, located at 132 Kings Hwy. in Warwick.
